TROOP 343 INFORMATION

Information

Troop 343 meets at 331 W. 25th Street in the St. Columba School Cafeteria.

Troop 343 meets every Friday as lisited on the calendar from September-June and during the summer for summer camp and other select events.

Troop 343's meetings are held from 7:00pm to 8:45-9:00pm, depending on the lesson.

All of Troop 343's meetings are held in traditional "Class A" regular uniform, unless noted.

Troop 343 is for Scouts 10 years-old to 18 years-old.

Directions to our Camps

Camp Alpine/ Cub World: Used for our weekend and special event camping trips, this camp is located about 18 miles from the city and is widely accesable. It has a rockwall facility as well as all the conviences of... well, nature. The Directions are:

  • By Car: Travel to the George Washington Bridge taking the upper level. Take your first exit on your right in New Jersey (Palisades Pkwy. North). Travel for about 9 miles to exit 2 - Alpine approach road. Follow the exit around under the Pkwy. to a traffic light (this will be Route 9W). Make a right turn and travel north for about 1-1/4 miles. Alpine Scout Camp will be on your left hand side, look for the Kiku Steak House jsut before the camp.
  • By Bus: Take Red and Tan Lines bus 9A/9W from either Port Authority at 42nd street or George Washington Bridge Depot. Most buses run direct from their origin, with the exception of the 10:15, 11:15, 12:15, 1:15, 2:15, and 3:15pm buses out of 42nd street on weekdays, and the 3:15, 5:15, 6:15, 8:20, and 10:25 buses on weekends. Returning, the 10:06, 11:06, 12:06, 1:06, 2:06, and 3:06 from Alpine Weekdays, and the 8:06am, 9:06am, 3:06pm, 5:06pm, 7:06, 9:36 from Alpine Weekends make both the GWB and PA stops.

Ten Mile River Camps: Used for our sumer camp, this camp is located in Narrowsburg, NY. The 4 camps in TMR offer many of the outdoor merit badges offered by the BSA. Directions are:

  • By Car: Travel to and take the upper level of the George Washington Bridge. Take your first exit on your right on the New Jersey side. This will be Palisades Pkwy. Travel north for 35 miles. Bear to your left and take the exit marked Route 6. Travel half-way round the traffic circle and continue on Route 6 for six miles unto Route 17 West. Travel on Route 17 for 44 miles to exit 104 (Monticello Rwy.). Travel on 17 B for about 6.7 miles into White Lake and blinking light. At .7 miles beyond the blinker, make a left hand turn on Route 55 west. Follow Route 55 for about 4 miles to the Ten Mile River Camp cut-off (County Route 26). Follow the TMR signs, looking for the signs for your camp.
  • By Bus: Take the Shortline Bus from the 42nd St. Port Authority to Monticello, NY. From there, you must make your own arrangements to get to camp.

William H. Pouch Camp Located in Staten Island, NY, this camp is the only GNYC scouting camp located within the 5 boroughs of New York City. Used primarily by Queens and Staten Island units, Troop 343 usually only attends special GNYC events at this camp. Troop 343 may plan to increase its use this camp for its own special events. Directions to camp are:

  • Take the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and follow the Staten Island Expressway to Slossen Avenue - Todt Hill Road exit. Follow the service road two lights to Manor Road and turn left. Follow Manor Road to the Camp Pouch entrance.
